These units are designed for processes, where a major cooling requirement occurs for limited period of time in a day. Such cases mostly occur in the dairy industry. Generally, milk is gathered in the morning and in the afternoon and has to be cooled promptly.
A serpentine evaporator running in a tank with an axial mixer is designed to produce ice at a certain thickness on the copper pipes. The unit gathers ice on the serpentine pipes when cooling function is not being used, and cooling energy stored by ice formation is used in cooling process by dissolution of the ice. In this type of cooling unit the compressor run time is expanded through time, and therefore the necessary motor facility power is less.
